Franciscan Sisters History Wall
Joliet, IL
We were recently contracted by St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet to assist in this project paying homage to The Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart. They have a long legacy of service to the community dating back to the mid 1800’s. Designed in collaboration with Jensen and Halsted this wall details their journey and their mission.
Much of this display consists of dimensional letters, but some of the copy is printed on durable vinyl. The centerpiece of this installation is a 4 foot hand carved heart made from Brazilian Chery; this particular species of wood has special significance to the order. To create a heart that bent in two planes like a ribbon, we started with a 4” block of wood then trimming it into 1/8” layers. We then laid it up onto a custom built form, bent it into a heart shape, sanded and stained it, then mounted it with custom fabricated stainless brackets.
